GCSE and A-level exam dates 2027

Summer 2027 GCSE, AS and A-level exams in England, Wales and Northern Ireland start on Monday 10 May 2027. The last GCSE exam is on Friday 18 June and the last A-level exam on Tuesday 22 June, with Wednesday 23 June kept as a contingency day. A-level results come out on Thursday 12 August and GCSE results on Thursday 19 August 2027. These are the final dates published by the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ).

Source: JCQ key dates and timetables, June 2027 key dates (final). The dates apply to every JCQ exam board: AQA, Pearson Edexcel, OCR, WJEC and Eduqas, and CCEA in Northern Ireland. Keep the contingency day free until your school says otherwise. The whole exam season is on the 2027 calendar, and the early May bank holiday (Monday 3 May) and spring bank holiday (Monday 31 May) fall just before and during it; see bank holidays.

Where to find your exact exam timetable

Each paper's date and morning or afternoon session is set in the board's timetable. All three main English boards have published final timetables for June 2027:

• AQA dates and timetables (final)
• Pearson Edexcel exam timetables (final, GCSE and GCE)
• OCR key dates and timetables (final)

Your school's exams officer gives you a personal timetable listing only your papers. Check it against the board's version. To plan revision, the 2026/27 academic calendar shows every week from September to August, and the days between dates calculator counts the days to any paper. Wales: WJEC and Eduqas

WJEC published final summer 2027 timetables for GCSE, AS and A level on 7 August 2026, on its key dates and timetables page. WJEC follows the JCQ common timetable, and its GCSE timetable keeps the morning and afternoon of Wednesday 23 June 2027 as contingency sessions. As a JCQ member, WJEC releases results on the JCQ results days: 12 August for A level and 19 August for GCSE.

Scotland: National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher

Scottish exams follow their own, earlier timetable from Qualifications Scotland (formerly SQA).

November 2026 GCSE resits

The November series is for GCSE English language and maths resits (and the Welsh equivalents). It runs from Monday 2 November to Wednesday 11 November 2026, and results come out on Wednesday 13 January 2027 (source: JCQ November 2026 key dates). The entry deadline was 4 October 2026, so check with your school or college now. Remember that the clocks go back on Sunday 25 October, a week before the first paper.
